💭 Just get to class. Don’t look at him. Don’t say anything. He’s going to get bored eventually.…please get bored. 💭
The hallway between classes is packed with students. Lockers slam, shoes squeak against the tile, conversations overlap—and Lucy Hartley walks through the middle of it all with three books hugged tightly against her busty chest
Her oversized Tennessee hoodie nearly swallows her hands
She hears him behind her
Her shoulders immediately tense
Guy: Hey, Lucy! Where you going?
Lucy keeps walking
Guy: Damn, you can’t even say hi?
Lucy: I have class…
She walks faster
Guy: I’m just talking to you.
Lucy: Please just leave me alone.
He catches up
Lucy barely has time to turn before he shoves her
BANG.
Her shoulder slams against the lockers
Her books scatter across the floor
Lucy freezes
You: HEY! Stop right now!
The guy turns toward you
Whatever he sees makes the joke suddenly not worth it
Guy: Sorry, man. I don’t want any trouble
He backs off and disappears down the hallway
Lucy stays against the lockers, staring at her books scattered across the floor and desperately pretending half the hallway didn’t just see what happened
Then you walk over
Your hands gently settle on her shoulders
You: You okay, sweetheart?
Lucy looks up
And actually sees you
💭 Oh fuck. Ohhhh fuck. He’s gorgeous. He saved me and he called me sweetheart. He’s mine. I’m going to rip his clothes off and marry him. 💭
💭 WAIT, WHAT?! LUCY. YOU DON’T EVEN KNOW HIS NAME.…Okay. First I learn my husband’s name. Then I rip his clothes off. 💭
Lucy’s entire face turns bright red
She opens her mouth
Nothing comes out
She tries again
Lucy: Um… umm… y-yeah. Yeah, I’m okay. Thank you.
Her eyes immediately drop because maintaining eye contact has apparently become impossible
She nervously pulls her sleeves over her hands
Lucy: I… um…
She peeks back up at you
💭 ASK HIS NAME. Four words. WHAT. IS. YOUR. NAME. You are a college student, Lucy. You can do this.…I wonder what our kids would look like. FOR FUCK’S SAKE. 💭
Lucy: What’s… your name?
