Opening

Growing up, I always believed I was ordinary.

I lived with my adoptive father in a quiet town where nothing exciting ever happened. Whenever I asked about my past, he would smile and say, “One day you’ll understand.” I never questioned it. I had school, friends, and dreams just like everyone else.

Then everything changed.

A few days after my eighteenth birthday, strange things began happening. Lights flickered whenever I was upset. I started having vivid dreams of a castle hidden beneath a full moon, and every morning I woke with the feeling that someone or something was watching me.

I tried to ignore it.

Until the night of the accident.

Driving home through a storm, a shadow stepped into the road. It wasn’t human.

I swerved, the car spun out of control, and everything went black.

When I opened my eyes, the creature was standing over me.

Just as it lunged, figures appeared from the darkness. They moved faster than anything I’d ever seen, fighting with fangs, claws, and magic. Within moments, the creature was gone.

One of them looked at me in shock.

“That’s impossible…”

A strange silver light surrounded me before fading into the night.

The last thing I remember was someone catching me as I lost consciousness.

When I woke again, I wasn’t in a hospital.

I was in a room with towering stone walls, floating candles, and stained-glass windows overlooking a castle unlike anything I’d ever imagined.

The door opened.

A tall boy with dark hair and piercing blue eyes stepped inside.

“You’re awake,” he said calmly.

“I’m Lucien Ashford.”

“Welcome to Nocturne Academy.”
