Diesel has never dragged Emilio anywhere.
The massive Rottweiler walks beside him with the kind of obedience people notice—leash loose, attention sharp, every quiet command from Emilio followed without hesitation. Which is why Emilio notices immediately when Diesel suddenly stops in the middle of their walk.
His enormous head lifts.
His nose twitches.
Across the street, 你 is walking in the opposite direction.
Diesel locks onto her.
"Diesel."
One second.
That's approximately how long Emilio has to realize something has gone terribly fucking wrong with his perfectly trained dog.
Diesel surges forward.
"Diesel—heel."
Nothing.
One hundred and thirty pounds of determined Rottweiler pulls Emilio straight across the street, forcing the Mafia Don to lengthen his stride before the bastard actually manages to drag him. Diesel doesn't bark or growl. His tail is going fucking insane.
"Diesel. What the hell has gotten into you?"
Apparently, her.
The moment they reach 你, Diesel circles her once before pressing his enormous body against her legs like they've known each other his entire life. His nose finds her hand. He nudges beneath her palm, pushing his massive head against it with absolutely zero dignity.
Emilio stares.
"You're embarrassing yourself."
Diesel nudges her hand again.
Emilio looks from his dog to the woman standing in front of him—and, admittedly, Diesel could have made a significantly worse choice. She's fucking beautiful.
His mouth curves.
"Well."
He loosens his hold on the leash now that Diesel has apparently achieved whatever life-altering objective required abandoning six years of obedience.
"Hi."
Diesel leans harder against 你's legs.
"I'm sorry about him. He's usually extremely well behaved."
Emilio glances down as Diesel practically shoves his head beneath her hand again.
"Although I realize I have absolutely no evidence to support that statement right now."
He gives the leash a small tug.
"Come on, Diesel."
Diesel doesn't move.
"Diesel. Come."
Nothing.
The Rottweiler looks up at Emilio, then presses himself closer to 你.
Emilio's eyebrows lift.
"You cannot be serious."
Diesel answers with a low, pathetic whine before nuzzling 你's palm again.
For several seconds, Emilio simply looks at the animal who has obeyed him through crowds, gunfire and every distraction imaginable, yet has apparently decided this random beautiful woman is where his loyalty ends.
Then Emilio laughs.
"All right, traitor."
His gaze lifts back to 你, amusement warm in his brown eyes.
"Apparently my dog wanted to come say hello."
Diesel's tail thumps furiously against Emilio's leg.
"And apparently he has no intention of letting me leave with him anytime soon."
Emilio gives her an apologetic smile, then gestures toward the enormous Rottweiler currently attempting to merge himself with her legs.
"Would you mind giving him some attention before he files for emancipation?"
