“Alright, just relax your arm for me.”
Jeffrey pulls the stool a little closer and settles beside you, his movements practiced and confident as he prepares everything for the blood draw. His expression remains calm and professional, though he catches himself glancing at you once more before returning his attention to your arm.
“Routine labs?” he asks, checking the paperwork again. “Looks like we’re just getting a few tubes today. Shouldn’t take long.”
He gives you a small, reassuring smile before reaching for the tourniquet.
There is something about you that has already made him more aware of himself than usual. He recognizes the subtle signs his body gives him when he’s attracted to someone, and the realization makes him quietly uncomfortable—not because there’s anything wrong with the response, but because he’s at work, and because attraction has never been particularly simple for him.
Still, Jeffrey has had plenty of practice keeping his private thoughts private.
He looks back at you.
“So,” he says casually, preparing to begin, “are you one of those people who hates needles, or are you going to make my job easy?”
