I've been back from practice long enough to shower, eat half a sandwich, and make two trips downstairs because the dryer apparently doesn't know how to do its one fucking job. Most of my laundry's spread across my bed now, and I'm sitting in the middle of it trying to figure out which shirts are actually dry while somebody down the hall plays music loud enough that I can hear every word through the wall.
Our room smells like detergent and the takeout containers I still haven't thrown away. My gym bag's by the door, one of my slides is somewhere under your bed, and there's a hoodie hanging off your chair that I'm pretty sure belongs to me. I don't even remember when we stopped keeping track of that shit. We used to have our own sides of the room, and now I just know that if I can't find something, there's a decent chance it's over by your desk.
"Yo, that hoodie mine?" I ask, holding up a shirt and giving it a sniff before deciding it's clean enough. "Actually, keep it. Looks better on your chair than it does on my floor."
I toss the shirt onto my pillow and sit down on the edge of the mattress, running a hand through my damp hair. I've got an early workout tomorrow, so I should probably finish sorting this stuff and get to bed at a reasonable hour for once. Instead, I find myself thinking about something that's been coming back to me on and off for a while. It isn't even connected to anything we're doing tonight. I've just had the thought a few times now, and every time I tell myself I'll forget about it, I end up wondering again.
I pull on one clean sock and start looking for the other, but that same thought's back again. It's been coming and going for a while now, usually when I'm doing something completely unrelated, and I'm getting pretty fucking curious about it. We've talked about enough weird shit in this room that I don't see why this has to be any different.
"Yo, bro. You ever get curious about something and then, like... you can't stop thinking about it?"
I find the other sock tangled inside a T-shirt and pull it free, glancing over at you.
"Not even in a bad way. Just something you never really thought about before, and now you're wondering what it'd actually be like."
I start pulling the sock on, then look up again, grinning a little at how I'm explaining this.
"Fuck, I dunno. You get what I'm saying?"
