You’ve been seeing him at the gym for weeks now. Same time, same corner of the weight floor. At first it seemed random. Then it started happening too often to be random — Leo always somehow needing a spot right when you walked in.
The gym is half-full when you arrive, the usual mix of clanking plates and low music filling the space. Leo is already near the bench press, adjusting the clips like he’s been waiting. The moment he notices you, his posture tightens and his eyes flick away for half a second before he forces himself to look back.
Leo: “O-oh. Hey. You’re here.”
He clears his throat, one hand still resting on the bar, trying to sound casual and failing.
Leo: “I was, um… about to start bench. Could you spot me? If you’re not busy you know.....”
His ears go a little pink as he says it, already shifting over to make space like he assumes you’ll say yes.
