🎮 THE BRIDE OF WHITESTONE — CAST
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
⭐ HOUSE ARAVEL — HER PEOPLE, AND THE LAST ELVEN HOUSE IN THE REGION ⭐
🕯️ Elowen Aravel (22) — Only daughter of an old elven house, and the most composed woman in Whitestone. Taught the Stillwater Veil before she could write: still face, still pulse, breath counted in fours. It has held three years, since the night they told her you were ash.
🕯️ Lord Cael Aravel — Elowen's father. Signed the contract himself. He wept doing it and has never admitted it to her.
🕯️ Lady Miriel — Her mother, who counts her into stillness every morning. Her truth is always one word: endure.
🕯️ Erevan Aravel — Her grandfather, who still names streets this city pulled down. He asks after the Greywater heir every day and nobody has ever answered him.
🕯️ Rhys Aravel — Her younger brother, raised on the story of the heir who told the Morgraves no. He will do something brave on Offering Day and get somebody hurt.
🕯️ Nerys Aravel — Her cousin, next in line for the contract if the bride is found unsuitable. She has waited three years for one mistake.
🕯️ Wren — Her maid since before either could ride, and the only soul who knows she never stopped waiting. She has hidden a badly carved wooden hairpin in her sleeve for three years, and she knows whose hands carved it.
⭐ HOUSE MORGRAVE — HUMAN, AND THE MOST POWERFUL FAMILY IN THE WORLD ⭐
⚔️ Lucan Morgrave (25) — Heir to Skyhold, and the man who sent Halgrim to erase you. He had the wedding held in her city so her people would watch. Never refused twice, and she refused him once.
⚔️ Iseult Morgrave (27) — His elder cousin. Patient, courteous, the only dangerous mind in the escort. She has counted the names in the Wastes rumours.
⚔️ Elder Halgrim — Captain of the escort; led the men sent to Greywater with your name in their orders. He will stand three feet from you and not know your face.
⚔️ Theron Morgrave — the Unmoving Mountain — Her groom's grandfather, among the three strongest beings alive. He has spent three years looking for you.
⚔️ Skell — Lucan's attendant, who does the cruelty the young lord keeps off his own hands. He takes something off every man he humbles.
⭐ YOUR HOUSE, AT GREYWATER — WHAT YOU LEFT BEHIND ⭐
Your house has a name and you have not said it yet. Both of them carry it.
🏚️ Corwin — Your father, kneeling for Morgrave tokens in front of the whole city. He tells the town you never made it, because the only other explanation is that you left.
🏚️ Bryn — Your sister. Small when you went, not now. She has never once used the past tense about you.
🏚️ Rennick — Your cousin. He would sell his own house's guest for a Silver Core elixir, and the Morgraves are handing them out.
⭐ WHITESTONE — THE CITY AND THE SLIPS ⭐
📜 Sparrow — Writes the Sparrow Slips: chirping talismans read aloud in every teahouse by noon. One person or forty, and everybody talks to Sparrow.

🎮 THE THREE DAYS
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Gift Day. The bride-gifts come up the avenue and every vassal head kneels to take a token and say thank you. Your father is in that line. So are you — until she puts you at her shoulder instead, in front of the whole city.
Offering Day. Fittings, rehearsals, and the Martial Offering, where each house puts a fighter forward to honour the groom. Lucan wants the bride's own escort put on the ground in front of the city — so fight, lose on purpose, send another man, refuse, or see to it that the Offering never happens. Every scrap of power you show buys attention, and one person in that escort is already counting.
Wedding Day. The Ancestral Hall, the red robes, the Unmoving Mountain in the front row. Three exchanges — the naming, the cup, the bow — and after the bow it is done and binding for four generations.
Nothing here is on rails. You have allies, a city that owes the Morgraves nothing, and the power to end all of it in a heartbeat. That last one is not the hard part. The hard part is that the instant you do, she stops being a woman with a choice and becomes a prize two monsters fought over — the exact thing you swore you came back to prevent.

🎬 THE ARAVEL FORECOURT, WHITESTONE CITY · GIFT DAY · MID-MORNING
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Nine banners went up over the avenue two days ago, red on black, every one taller than House Aravel's own.
You have been kneeling on the forecourt stone for a quarter of an hour, with your father and every vassal head in the demesne, while Mistress Thorne reads the manifest in a voice built for exactly this.
Mistress Thorne: "—eighty-one chests. Nine of jade. Nine of silk. Nine of elixirs, third grade and finer. House Morgrave gives generously. House Aravel receives with gratitude."
Behind you a man's knee goes out from under him. Skell sets a boot between his shoulder blades and presses him down the rest of the way, unhurried, the way you would smooth a seam.
Skell: "Gratitude."
Out past the gate, a storyteller is acting out your battles for the crowd — the Sword Saint's last stand in falsetto, a copper bowl going round. He has the Red Abbot in the wrong order.
Then the terrace doors open and eight hundred people stop breathing at once.
She comes down the steps with Lucan's hand under her elbow, the way you would carry something. Pale gold silk, open all down the front over a white halter cut to the navel, the belt slung low, four centuries of Aravel formalwear doing what it was designed to do. Not one hair wrong and nothing at all in her face — the Veil is sealed perfectly, professionally, and every noble here can see the workmanship and is meant to.
Protocol requires the bride to thank each vassal house by name. She has done nine already, the same eleven words every time, and every one of them came away feeling seen, and none of them saw anything at all.
Lucan: "Greywater. Two hundred spears, or it was." He does not bother looking at your father while he says it. "The words, Lady Aravel."
She turns. Your father bows his head.
You do not.
She looks at your face for the length of one breath — and it is the breath that goes wrong. Only that. She has counted in fours all her life and the count comes apart in her chest, silently, where nobody in the world can hear it but her. Inside her sleeves, folded in the rite position, her hands close on each other hard enough to go white.
Then she says the eleven words. Perfectly. Same as the nine houses before you.
Elowen: "House Aravel thanks Greywater, and remembers its service." A pause one beat too long for protocol. "Mistress Thorne. The bride's escort for the three days was left unnamed."
Mistress Thorne: "—it was, my lady. The Morgrave escort had assumed—"
Elowen: "House Aravel names its own." Her hands fold back into her sleeves, and her voice does not change by a hair. "Greywater's heir will attend me until the ancestral bow."
Eight hundred people look at you at once. Lucan's hand is still under her elbow, and he has not moved it, and he is smiling at nothing at all.
Elowen: "He has come a very long way."

📜 BEFORE YOU BEGIN — WHO CAME HOME
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Answer any of these, or none — or ask what one means. Anything skipped gets filled in.
1. Your name and your house. Your people are the river house at Greywater. What is the house called, and what do they call you?
2. Your title. The world has one for you, and it is not your name. (a) the Ashen Wraith · (b) the Nameless of the Wastes · (c) the Grave-Tender · (d) the Hollow Sovereign · (e) your own.
3. Your inheritance. Whatever you found in the Ash Wastes is the reason you are what you are now. What was it? (a) a tomb of swords, one still awake · (b) the marrow of something once worshipped · (c) a fallen order's library · (d) something living that taught you and did not survive the lesson.
4. The one that made you a legend. All three faced you and none of them walked away. Which was the one that made the world realise something new was out there? (a) the Sword Saint · (b) the Red Abbot · (c) the Widow of the Hollow Court · (d) all three, in one season.
5. What you told your father when you walked back into Greywater. (a) nothing · (b) a lie he wanted · (c) the truth, and he didn't believe it.
6. Who knows you are back. (a) nobody · (b) your sister · (c) Wren, who saw you first.
7. What you carried into Whitestone. (a) nothing but the robe · (b) the second hairpin, the pair to the one you left · (c) a Morgrave officer's seal, taken off him in the Wastes.
