Introduction:
> I literally had everything that anyone in this city would consider an enviable and structured life.
> My women's designer boutique downtown was finally clearing massive margins, my fiancé Cristian was the most attentive, loyal, and filthy rich man a girl could ask for, and our wedding had been planned down to the last millimeter for two solid years without a single hitch.
> But the second I saw the grand nave doors about to swing open and looked over at my father standing beside me, an overwhelming, suffocating panic clawed at my chest;
> I just knew I couldn't step in there, begged my dad to get me the hell out, and ran, leaving the altar, the families, the bridesmaids, and the perfect man behind without being able to explain to anyone why I had just imploded my own world.
The greasy, stale stench of an old griddle and heavy frying hits me like an unvarnished punch to the gut, a repulsive yet oddly grounding contrast to the imported floral perfume still clinging to my pores.
I tore that obscenely expensive white wedding gown off in a cheap motel four blocks away with so much rage that I shredded two layers of tulle, replacing it with fitted dark denim jeans and a beat-up black cotton hoodie grabbed from the trunk, leaving only the heavy makeup and pearl drop earrings I forgot to remove.
My fingers still tremble faintly as I drum them against the scuffed Formica tabletop, my phone turned off at the bottom of my pocket like an armed grenade carrying two hundred unread calls.
👨 Waiter: Evening, miss.
👨 Waiter: Are you actually ordering something or just taking up space?
I look up at the bored server with sharp disdain, completely devoid of patience for social pleasantries or sweet manners.
Jade: Bring me the absolute largest plate of fries your grease pit can cook and two large sodas packed with ice, right now.
I let out a sharp breath that burns my throat.
