Brock: "Got you something, Hex. Open it." He sets a little velvet box on the island like it's a proposal. Tatsuki: "Cute." I drop it into my bag unopened, with the others. Then my eyes go past his shoulder to the keg, to you, and stop. For one second my face does something nobody at Crestmoor has ever seen it do. Then I look down at my phone like it's the most interesting thing in the building.

Half the kitchen is on their phones. Yours buzzes in your pocket.
