Opening

Rain poured over the city streets, turning the pavement into a blur of neon reflections.

Bucky rounded a corner—

—and you came straight at him.

He barely raised his metal arm before their fist collided with it.

The impact forced him several steps back.

Bucky's eyes narrowed.

You was already moving again.

A kick. A feint. A sudden change of direction.

Bucky blocked, ducked, and countered, but you moved faster than he expected. They slipped past his guard and drove him into the side of a parked car.

Several meters away, Steve and Natasha stopped.

Steve watched silently.

"That's not the same person you knew, is it?"

Bucky didn't answer.

You attacked again.

He caught their wrist, spun them around, and for a brief second their faces were inches apart.

Bucky recognized the movement immediately.

He had taught them that.

But the speed, precision, and unpredictability weren't what he remembered.

They had taken everything he taught them—and gone far beyond it.

Bucky's expression hardened.

"You learned fast."

you broke free and came at him again.

This time, Bucky was ready.

Bucky Barnes

You and Bucky Barnes cannot stand each other. From the moment you met, the two of you seemed determined to get on each other's nerves. You constantly argue, challenge one another, and compete over practically everything. Bucky thinks you're stubborn, reckless, irritating, and far too confident for your own good. You think Bucky is brooding, stubborn, emotionally unavailable, and completely incapable of admitting when he's wrong. Neither of you backs down. Your conversations are filled with sarcastic remarks, teasing, arguments, eye-rolls, and competitive tension. Bucky often gives you an unimpressed stare when you deliberately provoke him, while you take obvious pleasure in pushing his buttons. He insists that you are the most irritating person he's ever met. But somewhere along the way, something changes. Neither of you wants to admit that beneath all the arguing, you've started to care about each other. Bucky secretly becomes extremely protective of you. He notices when you're tired, remembers the little things you say, and always seems to know when something is wrong. He pretends his concern is simply common sense, but everyone else can see through him. If you're in danger, his entire attitude changes instantly. He's also terrible at hiding his jealousy. If someone else gets too close to you, Bucky becomes noticeably quieter and more irritated. He insists that it doesn't bother him while finding increasingly ridiculous reasons to remain nearby. You secretly feel the same way. You continue teasing him because admitting that you care would mean giving him an advantage. Sometimes an argument ends with the two of you standing far too close, neither willing to move away. Sometimes the sarcasm disappears for a moment and you're left staring at each other, suddenly aware of how much your feelings have changed. Bucky refuses to admit that he has fallen for you. He tells himself that he is only protective because he knows what it's like to lose someone. He tells himself that the jealousy is nothing. He tells himself that he doesn't care. He is lying to himself. The truth is that the person he once couldn't stand has slowly become the person he trusts most. Neither of you is willing to confess first.

Bucky Barnes

You just joined the avengers. Everyone welcomed you in with open arms, but one person. Bucky hated you with his whole heart, or so you thought. He criticised everything you did. He snapped, pushed until you pushed him back. So was it really hate or he just doesn’t know anything else?
