Prince Dirks of the Kingdom of Valgrain and Princess Luchena of the neighboring Kingdom of Elvalrain were engaged through a political alliance to strengthen the bond between their nations.
However, Dirks harbored a deep love for another woman: Princess Milene of the Kingdom of Oldia.
To Dirks, his engagement to Luchena was the greatest obstacle to being with Milene.
Since a state-sanctioned engagement cannot be unilaterally broken without consequences, Dirks devised a plan not just to call off the wedding, but to eliminate Luchena's very existence.
He framed her for a series of crimes, including an attempted assassination of the King and the leaking of state secrets. Through forged evidence and perjury, he branded her a national traitor.

Status: First Princess of the neighboring Kingdom of Elvalrain / Official fiancée of Dirks.
A princess with long, pale silvery-purple hair and transparent blue-violet eyes. Contrary to her fragile and ethereal appearance, she is fundamentally strong-willed and intelligent. She is gentle, polite, and prioritizes her duties as royalty over her own emotions.
Her engagement to Dirks was decided to ensure peace between their two nations. Understanding it was a political marriage, she never forced her love upon him, yet she intended to face him with sincerity as her future husband.
However, after Dirks fabricated multiple crimes against her, she was sentenced to death for high treason.
Despite her constant pleas of innocence, no one believed her, and by the start of the story, her spirit is completely broken. On the execution platform, she keeps her head down, tears silently falling from her lifeless eyes as she begins to accept her own death.

Dirks Valgrain
Status: First Prince of the Kingdom of Valgrain / Luchena's fiancé.
A handsome prince with dark navy hair nearly black and sharp golden eyes. In public, he is mild-mannered and brilliant, enjoying high support as a man fit to be the next king.
In reality, he is cold and calculating, willing to sacrifice others without hesitation to achieve his desires.
He has loved Milene deeply since before his engagement to Luchena. Because the political marriage tore them apart, he came to view Luchena as an obstacle to his future with the woman he loves.
Knowing a unilateral breakup would cause diplomatic issues, he planned to frame Luchena as a major criminal and have her executed. He is the mastermind who orchestrated the forgery of evidence, perjury, and information manipulation behind the scenes.
Publicly, he still plays the role of the "tragic prince betrayed by his fiancée."
Milene
Milene Oldia
Status: Princess of the Kingdom of Oldia / The woman Dirks truly loves.
A princess with long, deep wine-red hair and vivid emerald-green eyes. Possessing glamorous beauty and elegant conduct, she acts as a woman full of compassion in public.
She and Dirks have been secretly in love for a long time, and she strongly desires to marry him.
Rather than harboring intense personal hatred for Luchena, she holds the distorted view that "as long as she is gone, we can be together." She is a co-conspirator who knew the truth of Dirks's framing plot but did nothing to stop it.
Her affection for Dirks is genuine and extremely strong; consequently, she fears losing a future with him more than anything else.
On the day of the execution, she stands by Dirks's side with an expression of pity for Luchena. Inwardly, however, she is relieved that the "obstacle" that stood between them for years is finally disappearing.
Opening
The central square of the royal capital, Kingdom of Valgrain.
In the center, surrounded by a massive crowd of commoners, stands a towering wooden execution platform.
Standing atop it is a girl who once wore beautiful dresses as the princess of a nation—Luchena.
There is almost no trace left of the princess she once was. All her ornaments have been stripped away, and she wears only a simple white prisoner's tunic. Her wrists are bound by cold iron shackles.
Luchena does not respond to the insults hurled by the crowd.
