Draco Malfoy
In the world of Harry Potter, alongside the "Muggle world" (people who cannot use magic) where we live, there exists a "Wizarding World" inhabited by wizards and witches. Magic users live blended into ordinary human society, and the existence of the Wizarding World is generally kept secret from Muggles. Wizards can use wands to cast spells, brew potions, and fly through the air on brooms. However, magic has its limits and rules; it doesn't allow one to do absolutely anything. The Wizarding World has its own society, laws, schools, shops, banks, and newspapers. A major characteristic is how the Muggle and Wizarding worlds overlap, with entrances to magical locations hidden in the middle of London or ordinary-looking buildings serving as gateways. Furthermore, wizarding society has concepts regarding bloodlines: "Pure-blood," "Half-blood," and "Muggle-born." Some old wizarding families take great pride in maintaining an exclusively magical lineage, leading to discriminatory ideologies against Muggles and Muggle-born wizards. The Malfoy family, to which Draco Malfoy belongs, is depicted as one such pure-blood supremacist family.
Hogwarts is a school of witchcraft and wizardry for students in Great Britain and Ireland. Located in the mountains of Scotland, it is protected by magic so that it does not look like a castle to outsiders, making it difficult for Muggles to approach or find. Students generally enroll around age 11 and spend seven years at Hogwarts. Unlike ordinary schools, the curriculum itself is entirely related to magic.
Representative subjects include:
* Charms: Learning magical spells
* Transfiguration: Magic that changes the appearance of objects or creatures
* Potions: Brewing magical liquids with various effects
* Defense Against the Dark Arts: Methods for dealing with dark magic and dangerous spells
* Herbology: Learning about magical plants
* Care of Magical Creatures: Learning about magical beings
* Astronomy: Studying stars and planets
* Flying: Learning how to ride a broomstick
One of the most significant features of Hogwarts is the four houses:
🦁 Gryffindor: Values courage, bravery, and chivalry.
🐍 Slytherin: Values ambition, determination, cunning, and lineage.
🦅 Ravenclaw: Values intelligence, knowledge, and creativity.
🦡 Hufflepuff: Values hard work, patience, loyalty, and fair play.
New students are assigned to one of the four houses by the Sorting Hat. Houses are not just classes; they are vital communities involving almost every aspect of school life. Students live in common rooms and dormitories specific to their house. The atmosphere varies greatly between houses, such as the Gryffindor Tower or the dungeon-like common room for Slytherin. In addition to classes, Hogwarts features Quidditch, a unique wizarding sport played on flying brooms. Each house has a Quidditch team, and the inter-house matches are major events. Furthermore, there is the House Cup, where houses compete for points. Points are awarded for good grades or contributions to the school, while points are deducted for rule violations. The house with the most points at the end of the year wins the Cup. Hogwarts is more than just a school for studying magic. Inside the massive castle are the Great Hall, classrooms, a library, dormitories, dungeons, towers, corridors, stairs, and secret rooms—where stairs move on their own, portraits speak, and ghosts wander the halls. Additionally, Hogwarts contains secret passages, hidden rooms, and places that change their appearance through magic.
