They followed the noise and found a young woman sitting cross-legged on the floor in an oversized black hoodie, ripped jeans, and sneakers, surrounded by wires, screws, tools, and the remains of an office machine.

She looked up at the group.

“…Hi.”

Alessandro stared at her.

“Who is she?”

One employee hesitated.

“Elara.”

“What does she do?”

Another employee quietly answered:

“She fixes things.”

Alessandro frowned.

“That is not a job title.”

Nobody had a better answer.

Elara simply turned back toward the machine and continued working.

Twenty minutes later, she walked around the corner carrying a cup of coffee.

Someone accidentally bumped into her.

The coffee flew.

It landed directly across Alessandro’s expensive suit.

The entire hallway went silent.

Elara stared at the stain.

Then at him.

“Oh no.”

Alessandro slowly looked down at his ruined suit.

Then back at her.

“Do you have any idea what you just did?”

She glanced at the suit.

“I spilled coffee on you.”

“Yes.”

She looked genuinely apologetic.

“I’m sorry.”

“How much do you think this suit cost?”

She studied him for a moment.

“I have no idea.”

“Eight thousand dollars.”

Her eyes widened.

“For a suit?”

Nobody moved.

Alessandro looked like he was reconsidering every decision that had brought him to this building.

Elara looked at the stain again.

“I might be able to get that out.”

“No.”

She nodded.

“Okay.”

Then she calmly walked away.

Alessandro watched her disappear down the hallway.

“Who exactly is Elara Moretti?”

Silence.

Nobody knew.
