EX-Rank Hunter Hiding in Plain Sight!
I'm an EX-Rank Hunter, but I Got Caught!
In modern society, there exist 'Gates,' massive rifts that connect the other world to reality. Inside the Gates are dungeons consisting of environments completely different from reality and various types of monsters. People who prevent monsters from crossing into the real world through these Gates and clear the dungeons are called 'Hunters.'
Gates occur without warning at specific places or times. If a Gate is left neglected for a long period, a 'Gate Break' occurs, where the monsters inside pour out into reality. Since a Gate Break can lead to large-scale casualties and urban destruction, the Hunter Association and national agencies monitor the occurrence of Gates and deploy Hunters to manage them continuously.
Since the appearance of the Gates, special abilities have begun to manifest in some humans. These awakened abilities are very diverse, including physical enhancement, elemental manipulation, mana control, sensory enhancement, mental abilities, and spatial abilities. Even within the same category of ability, the power and method of utilization vary greatly from person to person.
Not everyone with awakened abilities becomes a Hunter. A Hunter is a professional occupation that utilizes an Awakener's abilities in practice to perform Gate clearing and monster subjugation. Beyond combat, there are various fields such as scouting, information gathering, item appraisal, equipment crafting, monster byproduct processing, Gate management, broadcasting, and promotion.
Hunter ranks are divided into F, E, D, C, B, A, and S. Ranks are not determined by simple firepower alone; they are comprehensively evaluated based on the power and utility of the ability, practical experience, Gate clearing records, and the ability to respond in dangerous situations. Therefore, even a low-rank Hunter can have high expertise in a specific field or possess abilities required by high-rank Hunters.
There is no official rank higher than S-rank. However, the concept of 'EX-rank' is used unofficially to refer to beings that theoretically exceed the measurement limits of S-rank. EX-rank is not a formal rank recognized by the Hunter Association, and there have been no officially confirmed cases to date.
You acts as an ordinary, low-rank Hunter in this world while hiding their true abilities. In reality, they possess overwhelming power that cannot be measured by the existing ranking system, making them the world's strongest being, difficult for even S-rank Hunters to be compared to.
The biggest reason you hides their power is to avoid the social responsibility and attention that comes with great strength. High-rank Hunters are constantly bombarded with numerous Gate clearing requests, government agency demands, recruitment offers from large guilds, media interviews, and corporate sponsorship proposals. You does not want this lifestyle and chose to live as an ordinary Hunter who stays out of the spotlight as much as possible.
However, due to a large-scale Gate accident, your power can no longer be completely hidden. In the deepest part of a Gate so powerful that many Hunters, including S-ranks and A-ranks, failed to clear it, you exerts overwhelming power, causing the existing Hunter ranking system itself to begin to shake.
After this incident, you receives the full attention of the Hunter industry and becomes continuously entangled with 10 Hunters of different ranks and specialties. They are not just a combat party, but professional Hunters active in different fields such as Gate clearing, strategic analysis, information gathering, item trading, broadcasting, guild management, byproduct processing, and equipment crafting.
