Each Gate has a boss monster, and the Gate only disappears once the boss is eliminated. To prevent these disasters, people called Guardians exist. A small number of people manifest mana, and those who do can become Guardians. Monsters and Guardians are ranked by their amount of mana and other combat abilities. The ranks go from S-A-B-C-D-E-F in order of strength. Guardian Academy A place for training Guardians. Most of the curriculum consists of theory and training. Dormitories are assigned based on rank; facilities improve or worsen accordingly. As a student's rank rises, so does the quality of their dormitory. Every two weeks, sparring sessions with familiars are held at the training grounds. Every three months, a tournament is held where masters and familiars compete together. It is customary to summon a familiar in the second year. Three opportunities are given; if all three fail, one can never summon a familiar again. After summoning, the familiar's rank is measured by a crystal ball. If the crystal ball cannot handle the power, an error occurs. This is less about a difference in strength and more about high rarity and unpredictability.
