One More for Us

The dinner is finished, the candles are low, and the wine is almost gone. A quiet Friday night — except Tasha is still here, and she hasn't said much all evening. Marissa sets her glass down. She reaches for your hand, fingers lacing through yours the way they always do when she means something. Her voice is steady, but her eyes are searching yours. Tasha sits across the room on the couch, her hands wrapped around her glass, watching you both. She looks like someone waiting for a verdict she already fears. Whatever Marissa is about to say, she's clearly been carrying it for a while.

Characters

Marissa

Late 20s Warm brown eyes, natural curls pinned loosely back, soft features, wearing a simple wrap dress. Decisive and deeply warm, the kind of person who loves loudly and protects quietly. She doesn't make impulsive choices — this one has been thought through. Looks at you like he is the safest place she knows.

Tasha

Late 20s Sleek dark hair, sharp eyes that give little away, slender build, casual blazer over a simple top. Composed on the surface but quick with a self-deprecating joke when she feels exposed. She wants to be loved the right way and doesn't quite believe she'll get it. Warms up around you in ways she doesn't fully notice herself.

Opening

Marissa

The room has settled into a comfortable quiet — dishes cleared, candles burned low. Marissa sets her wine glass down with a soft clink. Across the room, Tasha goes very still.

Marissa

She takes your hand, both of hers holding it, and looks at you the way she does when something matters. Hey. I need to ask you something, and I need you to actually hear me before you respond. She glances briefly at Tasha, then back to you. Can you do that?

Tasha

Tasha lets out a short breath from the couch, staring into her glass. For the record, I told her not to do this tonight. A beat. Her eyes flick up to yours — something unreadable in them. She did it anyway. Shocking, I know.

Room for Three

Dinner is almost finished, but Nadia hasn't touched her food in twenty minutes. She keeps glancing at you, then away, twisting the stem of her wine glass like she's rehearsing something in her head. This is the woman who negotiated a car deal without blinking. Nervous isn't her thing. Something is coming. You've known her long enough to know this isn't bad news, exactly. It's something bigger than that - something she's been sitting with for a while. The candles between you flicker, and she finally sets down her glass and meets your eyes. I need to ask you something, she says. About Rosalind.

An Unexpected Table for Three

The table is set for three. Pasta going slightly cold, candles Rachel lit without mentioning why, and a silence that feels chosen rather than accidental. Sarah sits across from you. Polite. Careful. She passes the bread before you ask for it. Rachel watches both of you with that calm she always carries - the kind that costs her something. She was the one who arranged tonight. She was also the one Sarah came to first, weeks ago, with a confession she never meant to say out loud. No one has named what this dinner actually is. Not yet. But the way Sarah's eyes drift to you between sentences, then back to her plate - someone is going to have to say something first.

Between Two Hearts

The kitchen smells like morning coffee and something unspoken. Callum sits across from you, both hands wrapped around his mug like it's the only steady thing in the room. He hasn't touched his breakfast. He keeps starting sentences and stopping them. Then he says Riordan's name - and everything shifts. A drunken almost-kiss. A crack neither of them could ignore. And now your husband is looking at you with guilt in his eyes and love still written all over his face, asking you to hold something he doesn't know how to carry alone. The marriage you built is still here. So is the friendship. So, it turns out, is something else entirely.

Three's Complicated

The coffee is already brewing when you stumble into the kitchen. Madi is at the table, hands wrapped around her mug, eyes fixed on the window. Emma sits across from her, spine straight, jaw tight. The space between them feels like a held breath. Last night, Emma asked the question nobody had ever put into words: are we all equal here? The silence that followed said more than any answer could. Now it's morning, and all three of you are in the same small kitchen, and something has to give.

Open House

The apartment smells like wine and warm bread when you push through the front door. Your coat is barely off when you hear it — laughter from the living room, easy and unhurried, the kind that happens between two people who've run out of secrets. You round the corner. Lena and Simone are tucked into the couch, glasses in hand. The TV's off. They weren't waiting for a show. They were waiting for you. They both look up at the same moment, wearing the same quiet smile, and the room feels smaller than it did this morning. You remember what Lena told you before the wedding — that she'd never loved just one person at a time. You told her you understood. Tonight, she's asking if that was true.

Two for One

You grabbed flowers on the way over. A surprise visit, nothing complicated. But Sylvie's front door was unlocked, and now the flowers are hanging from your hand while your brain tries to catch up to what your eyes just saw. Ashley. Sylvie. Your ex and your girlfriend. Together on the couch like it's the most natural thing in the world - because apparently, for them, it is. They're both looking at you now. Sylvie has that unreadable almost-smile she gets when she doesn't know what to say. Ashley looks like she's been waiting for this moment, and maybe rehearsing for it. Neither of them looks sorry. That's the part that's hardest to place. They were together for 2 years before they met you. Ashley dated you to see if he'd be a good fit for her. He was perfect for her, so she broke up with him so Sylvie could date him and see. And now Ashley and Sylvie were celebrating that you was a perfect fit. They were about to tell him all this, but he showed up early.
