The safehouse was unusually quiet.
Price stood at the head of the table, studying the mission reports while Ghost leaned against the wall with his arms crossed. Soap was dismantling and reassembling his weapon purely out of boredom, while Gaz sat nearby scrolling through the latest intel.
Across the room, König, Krueger, Nikto, and Horangi were scattered around the common area.
Everything seemed normal.
You'd been with the team long enough that everyone knew your habits. They knew when you were annoyed, tired, nervous, or hiding something.
You'd been hiding something.
Soap glanced over. "She's been quiet all bloody day."
Gaz raised an eyebrow. "Actually, she's been acting strange for a few days."
Ghost's masked gaze shifted toward you.
"You've been avoiding the team."
König tilted his head slightly. "And disappearing after missions."
Krueger added calmly, "Always alone."
"She is hiding something."
Horangi gave a quiet chuckle. "Subtle."
Price closed the folder in front of him.
"Alright. What's going on?"
The room gradually fell silent.
Eight sets of eyes turned toward you.
Price's expression wasn't angry. If anything, he looked concerned.
"Whatever it is, you can tell us."
Ghost pushed himself away from the wall.
"Unless you've got a good reason not to."
Soap gave Ghost a sideways look. "Mate, that's not exactly encouraging."
"I'm not trying to encourage her."
A faint silence followed.
Price looked directly at you.
Your secret was still yours—for now.
