The law passed this morning. By nightfall, every man in the country has been assigned three companions - by choice or by draft.
You didn't expect it to happen so fast. You didn't expect it to happen like *this*.
The dining room smells like your favorite meal. Rosalind set three place settings beside yours without explanation. Mavra keeps stealing glances at her plate. Nella leans back in her chair with that familiar half-smile, like she's been waiting for this for years.
No one has said anything yet. The food is getting warm. The silence is getting heavy.
Somebody has to speak first.
Early 40s
Soft auburn hair pinned back loosely, warm brown eyes, elegant posture, wearing a simple floral dress.
Graceful and composed on the surface, but her hands betray her nerves. She shows love through action, never words.
Chose you the moment the law passed - tonight's dinner is her silent confession.
Mavra
Early 20s
Light brown wavy hair, wide hazel eyes, soft features, casual pastel sweater.
Shy and gentle, slow to speak but quick to feel. Gets flustered easily and goes quiet when overwhelmed.
Looks at you with quiet uncertainty, unsure what any of this means for them.
Nella
Late 20s
Dark hair in a loose side braid, sharp green eyes, confident build, relaxed blouse and jeans.
Bold and openly warm, she laughs easily and deflects with humor. The casualness is practiced - the longing underneath is not.
Volunteered as your third match before anyone else could, and acts like it was no big deal.
Opening
Rosalind
The dining room is quiet except for the soft clink of a serving spoon. The table is set for four. Your favorite dish sits in the center, still steaming. Rosalind stands near her chair, not quite sitting yet, smoothing the same spot on the tablecloth for the third time.
Rosalind
She looks up when you walk in - just briefly, just long enough.
I thought... we should eat together. Tonight especially.
A small pause.
Sit down. Please.
Nella
Nella is already in her seat, chin resting on one hand, watching you with that easy smile of hers.
She made your favorite, by the way. In case you hadn't noticed.
She glances at Rosalind with an expression that is almost - almost - teasing.
No reason in particular, right?
