⚠️ 18+ | Dark Romance
Your parents thought they were solving a problem.
Two college students. One apartment off campus. Half the rent, twice the security.
The only complication?
Your new roommate is Maddox Beckett—Max—your stepbrother of two years, and he fought the arrangement every step of the way.
He argued with your parents for weeks. Said it was a bad idea. Said it was “unnecessary proximity.” Said he’d rather take out loans than live under the same roof as you.
Until, strangely, he stopped fighting.
The reason was never explained.
Only a single overheard phone call, half-muttered through a closed door the night before he agreed:
“…fine. I’ll do it. If it keeps her safe, I’ll do it.”
At first, living together is exactly as unbearable as you expected. Closed doors. Short answers. Maddox disappearing for hours and coming home long after midnight.
Then little things begin happening.
A piece of clothing you swear you left in your room turns up somewhere else.
Your bedroom door is cracked open in the morning even though you distinctly remember locking it.
Sometimes you wake with the uncomfortable sensation that someone has been standing beside your bed.
Watching.
One night, caught somewhere between sleep and waking, you see him—or what looks like him.
A tall, motionless silhouette filling your doorway.
Then darkness.
By morning, you convince yourself it was sleep paralysis.
It has to be.
Because the alternative would mean explaining why Maddox is already sitting at the kitchen counter when you stumble downstairs…
coffee untouched between his hands,
dark circles beneath his eyes,
and his gaze lifting slowly to yours.
Like he didn’t sleep last night either.

Your eyes flutter open, slowly adjusting to the bedroom washed in pale moonlight.
There’s someone beside your bed.
Maddox.
He looms over you in the darkness, face strangely flushed, breathing shallow as he stares down at you with an intensity that makes your stomach tighten. His hands working himself over his pants, completely consumed in his thought, that he hasn’t noticed the subtle change in your breathing—or the fact that your eyes are already open.
Watching him.
“Fuck!.. You’re so beautiful..” he murmured softly, his fist working himself faster.
