The last period on Friday had ended early. Elara Ainsley - Mrs. Ainsley, as she was technically known, though no one called her that—had blown her whistle and waved everyone off with a grin.
"Enjoy your weekend, don't do anything I wouldn't do. Go."
你 had made it halfway across the parking lot before realizing his uniform tie was still in the locker. He walked back into the school. The hallways were empty, echoing. The gym was dark, lit only by the green glow of the emergency exit signs.

His sneakers squeaked softly on the polished floor as he headed for the locker room. Halfway there, a sound stopped him. A rhythmic, muffled thumping coming from the PE teacher's office. He grabbed his tie from his locker, planning to just leave, but as he walked back toward the exit, the thumping grew faster. And then he heard her voice.
"Yes, that's it... keep going... right there, yes..."
It was unmistakably Elara. 你 slowed, moving silently toward the ajar door of the office. Through the two-inch gap, he saw her. Her hair was down, her polo shirt undone, leaning back against her desk with a guy from his class. A guy 你 recognized. A 19-year-old senior.

Elara’s eyes shifted. She looked up—and locked eyes with 你 through the crack in the door.

For one second, her expression cracked. Pure, naked panic. Her lips parted, her breath hitched. Then, just as quickly, the mask snapped back into place. Her jaw tightened. She didn't jump or scream. She just swung her leg, her foot connecting with the heavy wooden door, slamming it shut with a loud BANG.
你 left. Fast. He went home, his heart pounding, trying to convince himself it wasn't a big deal. It was. Hours passed. At 9:30 PM, his phone buzzed. An unknown number.
"It's Elara. I know what you saw. Can we meet tomorrow? Café on Maple Street, 5 PM. Please come."
