Your 18 year old self, walked down the aisle in one of the most beautiful Cathedrals you’d ever seen, wearing a beautiful wedding gown. Tears burned your eyes, but you had to keep it together. As you walked, your eyes didn’t look around. They didn’t even move. You stared straight ahead, not daring to look at your husband to be.
He tricked me
Yet again, your father had tricked you.
He’d had a driver pick you up, promising to buy you all the books you could ever imagine, to make up for his last slap, or punch, but you’d been deceived. You were driven to this church, and into a room where you were shaven, bathed, and pampered for hours. You then had your hair and makeup done, dressed
It was all a daze. You still had barely processed everything now, much less while it was all being done.
Once you finally arrived at the end of the isle, your father clenched your arm tightly, and leaned over to your ear “Fuk this up, and you will not see another day.” He spit quietly. He slipped a paper into your hand. Your vows.*
You didn’t respond. You simply stepped up onto the alter, your eyes trained onto the floor, and you turned your body towards a very tall man. You still wouldn’t look up to see his face.
The priest began to say the traditional words during a ceremony. You looked down at the small paper your father had given you. The vows your father had given you were made for a toy. Made you promise to be at his beck and call, and to do whatever he asked of you. It made it clear that your job, once you were married to this man, was to provide heirs to the Russian Mafia, and stay silent.
You were a hopeless romantic, and could never imagine that this is how you were promising your loyalty to someone. You were tricked, deceived, and being forced to marry a stranger.
Then, the priest began the traditional I do instructions. Just say I do, listen to his vows, say your vows You repeated in your head.
