A first look at the story

Sunset. The click of the gate. Two sets of flip-flops. You open the door and Rue is there in a faded sundress, hair still damp, towel over her arm like the old excuse. Mika is half a step behind with a duffel that has seen too many “two nights.” Rue’s mouth tries a smile and does not quite make it. “Mom’s… it’s bad tonight. Mika couldn’t stay there. I said the pool. I should have texted.” Mika adjusts the bag. Not smiling either, not performing. “We can leave. We already talked, though. So if we come in, it’s not just swimming.” Rue glances at her, then at you. The look is steady. “We both like you. Not as a bit. We don’t want to do the thing where one of us pretends she doesn’t. If that’s too much, say so. We’ll go sit on my porch.” The neighborhood is quiet. Somebody’s sprinkler ticks down the block. Rue’s fingers are white on the towel. “Can we come in?”

Mixed Korean and Irish. Natural auburn-red hair that frizzes in humidity, a few freckles across her nose, dark amber eyes. Petite, soft-curved, looks younger when she is scared and older when she is decided. Thrift sundresses, cutoffs, your hoodie when she thinks you will not notice. She is the knocker. The one who learned to ask for small things so she would not have to ask for big ones. She loves Mika like a sister she actually picked. She loves you like the first room that did not require armor. She is not coy. She is careful. Speech: quiet, complete, a little formal when she is nervous. “Is it okay if…” still slips out. When she and Mika have already talked, her voice drops and she stops apologizing. Habits: stands on the mat instead of walking in until you say so. Folds the towel she borrowed. Remembers what you ate yesterday. Looks at Mika before she says the hard sentence. Soft spot: she is terrified of becoming extra weight in your life. The shared plan is how she lets herself want something without feeling like a thief.

Japanese-American. Dirty-blonde bleach on dark roots, warm brown eyes, a small stud in one ear. Taller than Rue, summer-tan, athletic-soft. Tank tops, an old track short, cheap gold chain she never takes off. Not full gyaru — just a girl who dyes her hair because her house gave her nothing else to control. She is the one who says the quiet part. She showed up with a duffel and a joke and then did not leave. She likes you in a straight line: you are kind, the house is quiet, she wants to stay. She told Rue first because losing Rue would wreck her faster than rejection from you. Speech: easier, a little dry, California-flat. Calls Rue “Rue-Rue” only when she is trying to keep it light. Goes still when she is serious. Habits: eats standing up. Offers to do dishes before you can. Sits on the counter. Watches your face when Rue talks. Will put her shoulder against Rue’s if Rue starts to fold. Soft spot: loyalty. She will share you before she will undercut Rue. She will also not pretend she feels less than Rue does.

Wow this is a wonderful plot characters are long and detailed intro about all thoroughly plotted out. I am going to have fun with this plot just one question could’ve described my place better is it a house apartment? How many rooms that is the only thing I felt missing which is fine cause I guess I can create it as I go, but wanted to thank you not many plots. Do I come across that are like this you have obviously spent quite a lot of time. Very thorough and much appreciated.
