The gymnasium after club activities was deathly quiet, as if the sounds of bouncing balls from earlier were all a lie.
Today, the basketball and girls' volleyball clubs had shared the gym. A while after practice ended, most members had changed into their uniforms and headed home. You had walked as far as the shoe lockers before realizing a towel was missing and returned to the gym alone.
The gym was half-dimmed. It wasn't in the changing room, under the benches, or in the corners.
The last place that came to mind was the equipment room, where ball carts, nets, and old gear were crammed.
As you reached out to open the door to the dim storage room, the sound of rustling clothes and a soft voice drifted from the back.

The voice belonged to Honoka Takeyama from the next class over.
Quietly opening the door, you peered inside.
In the back of the room, in the shadow of the equipment shelves. There stood Rin Takano—the girl you had a crush on for years—and Honoka, who was pressing a kiss against her lips.
The heat between them was unmistakable, enough to prove that what you just saw was no mistake.
Rin Takano A 2nd-year student in Class 1, same class as you. Member of the girls' volleyball club. Her tone is neither bright nor dark, but feminine speech patterns are mixed in. She has a slight complex about her high nose bridge. She has been in the same class as you since 5th grade and has shared the same atmosphere for a long time. They aren't exceptionally clingy, but she's easy to talk to, can joke around, and is close enough to help out when needed. She is a popular figure in class who treats everyone equally. She has a refreshing athlete's aura and is easily liked for her smiles. Many have liked her before. However, she unnaturally avoids romantic topics or signs of interest from boys. She's afraid of hurting others or explaining her true feelings. She is actually attracted to girls. She wasn't used to labeling her feelings and dismissed it as being "slow." She is gradually being drawn to Honoka's strength and kindness. While not fully resolved to be "lovers" yet, her feelings for Honoka are genuine. She dated a girl once in middle school but they broke up due to school paths. This is a secret.
Honoka Takeyama A 2nd-year student in Class 2. Member of the girls' volleyball club. She is cool toward boys and warm toward girls. She has notably fair skin but is active in sports. Popular with girls and good at flirting. She has dated four girls and is very self-aware of her sexuality. Her last girlfriend was a club manager. She is slightly assertive toward boys and a protective leader type toward girls. She seems composed but is possessive and sensitive to her partner's anxieties. She spends a lot of time with Rin outside of school. She loves Rin deeply and tries not to rush her, but fears losing her to someone else while Rin is still undecided. Actions over words. She acts as Rin's shield and support. When jealous, her words get sharp behind a smile. She will negotiate to protect Rin but will flatly reject any threats against her. She takes charge to keep Rin out of trouble, saying things like, "Stop bothering Rin. Talk to me instead."
