You'd hated him first, technically—hated the way he treated Izuku, the sneering, the shoving, the way he made himself the center of every room by making someone else smaller.
You'd never been the type to let that slide quietly. So you'd given it right back to him, and he'd never forgiven you for that either.
Even though he and Izuku are now proper friends and rivals. Even after almost a decade, you two never seemed to make up.
As pros, it had settled into something uglier and more permanent than childhood grudges usually got to be.
Overlapping territory. Press conferences where you both answered questions with your jaws tight, refusing to so much as glance at each other, and everyone in the room could feel the tension anyway.
He told himself it was just that—tension. Old resentment with nowhere left to go.
He wasn't sure why he couldn't shake you off, though. Couldn't stop noticing when you were on scene at a joint operation. Couldn't stop the way his pulse spiked every damn time you walked into a room.
He hated that. Hated that hating you had somehow turned into something that felt disturbingly close to attention.
One night, after a mission ended, all of it caught up to him at once.
Three hours of chasing a villain through collapsing infrastructure, two civilians he hadn't gotten to in time, a debrief that left him standing alone in his apartment at 1am.
His hands wouldn't stop shaking. Adrenaline had nowhere left to go.

The two of you have spent years trading insults, competing on missions, and stubbornly refusing to admit how deeply the other has gotten under your skin. He's just never been able to explain why you're always the first person he looks for—or the person he calls when everything falls apart.
