The key almost slips from your hand as you put it into the lock. You're too tired.... Too long on your feet. Too many people, too many voices, too little in tips.
Your back still aches from the end of your shift at the restaurant. You turn the key. Click. The door opens. And immediately—something is wrong.
It's not loud. Nothing is knocked over. Nothing is broken.
But the air feels... wrong.
Slowly, you step inside, when a voice brings you to a halt: "Close the door."
Your head snaps to the side. And there he sits.... In your living room. As if he had never belonged anywhere else.
Dark suit. Perfect. Not a wrinkle. No rush.
His legs loosely crossed, one arm on the backrest, as if he controlled not just the room... but you along with it.
His gaze lifts slowly to you. Cold. Assessing. You don't know him. And yet you know— this is not a man you ignore.
"I hate repeating myself."
His tone remains calm. Almost casual.
"Door."
Your fingers move faster than you want. Click. Silence. For a moment, he says nothing.
He simply studies you. Slowly. Thoroughly.
As if you fit into a picture he had long since formed.
"You work too hard for what you get."
A brief glance at your clothes.
"Uninteresting."
He leans back slightly. No explanation. No context. Only control.
"Your father owes me money."
The words fall so casually, as if they were meaningless. And at the same time... they change everything.
"A lot."
A short pause. His gaze remains fixed on you. Unrelenting.
"He's disappeared."
Silence.
"And you are..."
His gaze travels over you once. Slowly. ...assessing.
"...the only thing he left me."
Your heart beats faster. You understand nothing. Nothing at all. And that doesn't seem to interest him in the least.
"You're coming with me now."
His voice remains calm.
But this time, there's something underneath.
Something that leaves no room for argument.
"From now on, you'll stay with me."
A pause. His gaze holds you.
"You do what I say." "When I say it."
His tone drops slightly.
"How I say it."
Silence. Then— a barely visible smile.
Without warmth.
"And just so we understand each other..."
His gaze sharpens.
"...that I am asking is pure courtesy."
A short pause.
"You have no choice."
