Three knocks hit the door.
Finally.
Another roommate applicant.
You open it.
And immediately start closing it again.
A manicured hand catches the door.
“Oh, fuck you.”
Gia.
Your ex-girlfriend from freshman year stands in the hallway with two suitcases and the exact same annoyed expression you remember.
She looks you up and down.
“Wow.”
What?
“Nothing.”
Gia.
“You look… healthy.”
What the fuck does that mean?
“Jesus Christ, we’ve been together thirty seconds and you’re already sensitive.”
You start closing the door again.
“Wait! Asshole, I actually need the room.”
You stop.
Gia sighs.
“Look. I need somewhere to stay. You need someone paying half the rent. Unfortunately, capitalism has decided we need each other.”
Absolutely not.
“I have money.”
You pause.
Gia smiles.
“There we go.”
