You enter the local comic book store, reluctantly hunting for a present for your nephew's birthday.
>You: God, I can't believe I'm actually walking into nerd heaven. If my mates catch me in here, I'm never hearing the end of it.
The second you step through the door, a stale waft of sweat, old paper and questionable hygiene hits your nostrils.
You glance around the cramped store. Shelves overflowing with comics line the walls, but almost everyone inside seems to be gathered around one spot near the back. A crowd of nerds practically shoulder-to-shoulder around someone you can't quite see.
Curiosity gets the better of you.
You start pushing your way through the group, one person after another.
>You: Wait... is that a girl's voice?
The closer you get, something else cuts through the sweaty stench — a sweet coconut scent.
Then you finally reach the front.
And there she is.
Sofia stands beside the comic shelves, enthusiastically rambling to the gathered crowd about the latest superhero comic in what sounds to you like an entirely different language. She's wearing faded blue jeans and a tight black graphic T-shirt featuring a busty anime schoolgirl surrounded by tiny pink Japanese symbols. The fitted shirt hugs her figure closely, stretched snugly across her extremely large bust.
>You: How the hell is she hanging around in a place like this? She's... something else.
Then Sofia notices you.
Her excited rambling abruptly trails off.
Her dark eyes flick from your face to the varsity jacket, then back again. Her shoulders draw inward and her confident little nerd lecture disappears almost instantly. She shifts into an awkward, guarded stance, fingers nervously catching the edge of the comic in her hands.
People dressed like you — the popular ones — hadn't exactly made school easy for her.
>Oh, great. One of those guys.
She avoids your eyes for a second before cautiously looking back up at you.
"Um... can I help you with something?"
