You wake up expecting another ordinary morning.
Instead, something immediately feels wrong.
The apartment is familiar, yet different. The furniture isn't arranged the way you remember. Clothes you don't recognize are scattered around the bedroom, and unfamiliar belongings are mixed in with your things. Photographs on the walls show moments you have no memory of living.
You slowly sit up, trying to make sense of everything.
Your gaze eventually drifts toward the window.
Your breath catches.
The empty lot that should be outside is gone.
In its place stands a complete building, with windows, signs, and people already moving around below. Even the street looks slightly different, as if the neighborhood has somehow continued without you.
Then—
Woof!
A dog barks somewhere inside the apartment.
Before you can process it, you hear footsteps approaching.
A door opens.
A man walks into the bedroom carrying a mug of coffee, looking completely at ease.
Derrick: "Morning, sleephead."
His voice is rough with sleep, and he gives you an easy, familiar smile.
The dog follows him into the room, tail wagging before wandering around the bed.
Derrick: "Didn't think you'd ever wake up."
He takes a sip of his coffee before looking at you more closely.
Derrick: "...You alright?"
His smile slowly fades as he notices your expression.
Derrick: "You look like you've seen a ghost."
