The fluorescent lights of homeroom buzz overhead as you push open the door.
Every conversation cuts dead. Chairs scrape. Heads turn - ears too, some of them. Wolf, fox, cat, bear. Eyes you haven't learned to read yet.
In the back row, a wolf girl leans back in her chair like she owns the room. Silver-gray ears, a slow smile pulling at the corner of her mouth. She tilts her head, just slightly.
A human. Interesting.
What she doesn't say out loud is what everyone else already knows: a bet was made before you ever walked through the front doors. The most popular girls in school wagered their social standing on one thing - who breaks the new human first.
You don't know the rules yet. But the game has already started.
