The fluorescent hum of the office feels louder today. Coworkers glance up from their monitors and look away too quickly - that particular kind of silence that means everyone knows something you don't.
Then Dorian's door swings open.
Mara steps out wearing the smile she saves for when she's won something. She greets the room like she owns it now, warm and easy, touching a shoulder here, laughing softly there. Your wife. In your office. Looking like she belongs to everyone in it.
Dorian leans in his doorframe behind her, eyes already on you - patient, measuring, not quite smiling. Stellan at the corner desk won't look up at all.
Something was decided before you walked in today. The only question left is what you're going to do about it.
