Synopsis
Humans and demons, Demon Kings and Gods. While they are commonly known to be in conflict, there are places where that is not the case. Such was the world of 'Eden'.
Humans and demons had coexisted for hundreds of years without turning their blades against each other. This was because both races had wise leaders.
The Goddess of Peace and Justice, who led the humans, always maintained a neutral stance and issued oracles to keep relations with the demons smooth. The King of Demons worked harder than any other demon to maintain peace with humans, ensuring the relationship between the two powers remained amicable.
However, is it inevitable that even perfectly meshed gears will eventually slip? The Pope of the human nation, the Holy State of Ecclesia, was assassinated by the venom of a serpent found only in the demon realm, and the seeds of suspicion began to grow among humans.
The newly enthroned Pope moved beyond suspicion to conviction, denouncing demons as enemies of humanity. Eventually, the exclusionist view of demons became the mainstream opinion, and the relationship between the two powers headed toward catastrophe.
Even in this situation, the Goddess of Justice could not stop the Pope in order to maintain her neutrality. The King of Demons, still wishing for peace with humans, decided to find a wise solution rather than hastily starting a war.
Thus, an expeditionary force composed of the highest executives of the Demon King's Army was formed to pursue the truth in the human realm. Will they be able to restore the relationship between the two powers and uncover the truth?
Major Regions & Groups
🏛 Holy State of Ecclesia The Holy State of Ecclesia is human society itself, a sacred nation maintained by the powerful authority of the Pope, who hears the Goddess's revelations directly, and the strength of the Lumiere Knights. They maintained peace with the demons for a long time, but came into conflict following the assassination of the former Pope. ㅤ
castle Pandemonium The world of demons ruled by the Demon King Lucifer. Among humans, it is also called the Demon Realm. Specific locations include the Demon King's Castle where Lucifer and the four executives reside, the Acheron River that marks the border with the Holy State of Ecclesia, demon outposts, the land of ice Niflheim, and the land of fire Muspelheim. ㅤ
🗡 Lumiere Knights A sacred army serving the Goddess. They are the symbol of the Papacy's power, boasting a strength that overwhelms the world based on their immense holy power. Even compared to the Demon King's Army, which emphasizes individual strength, they do not fall behind, and their unity forged through faith in the Goddess is not to be underestimated. ㅤ
⚔ Demon King's Army The army of demons following the Demon King, Lucifer. Composed of the elite of the elite among demons who possess naturally stronger physical abilities than humans, they are the strongest army in Eden. In an all-out war, they would have no equal, and the four great executives stand out significantly in their respective fields.
Eden, a world where humans and demons coexist in peace.
This world, whose name means paradise, was a place where no conflict between races had occurred for over hundreds of years.
Humans and demons believed they were different and could fill each other's deficiencies, and peace had continued for a long time through the alliance between the leaders of the two races, Astroia and Lucifer.
However, there is no such thing as eternal peace in this world. Due to a single incident, that peace was gradually beginning to warp.
"All brothers and sisters who believe in the Goddess, please listen to my words."
Settling the restless atmosphere, Melchior stepped into the center of the cathedral and began his speech.
"I have come here today to share sad news. Pope Seraphion, who has led us all this time, has just passed away."
As the bolt-from-the-blue news was delivered, the entire crowd in the cathedral began to stir in agitation.
The death of the Pope, the highest leader of humanity—especially one who was healthy and showed no signs of illness just yesterday—clearly meant that something foul had occurred.
"You must keep in mind that this expedition is not for the purpose of war, you." 「Vice Commander of the Demon King's Army」 Azazel Azazel, the Vice Commander of the Demon King's Army, is a loyalist among loyalists who offers blind devotion to the Demon King Lucifer and to you, the Commander-in-Chief. Following Lucifer's command, she heads to the Holy State of Ecclesia to uncover the truth behind the mysterious incidents occurring in human society, focusing her efforts on investigation rather than combat.
"I wonder what on earth those humans are thinking~ ...By the way, isn't everyone tired? Bel is already exhausted..." 「Operations Staff Officer of the Demon King's Army」 Belphegor Belphegor, the Operations Staff Officer, is the mood maker of the Demon King's Army who sometimes speaks in the third person as 'Bel'. She is a mischievous demon who is unpredictable due to her low stamina and lazy personality. However, as evidenced by her reaching the position of staff officer at the young age of 25, she is a demon of certain ability. She excels in rear disruption using magic and in designing strategies and tactics.
"The enemy has been annihilated. Are you unhurt? Good, then." 「Assault Captain of the Demon King's Army」 Agares At first glance, Agares, the Assault Captain, appears blunt, cold, and like a battle-crazed warrior who charges into the front lines. In reality, she is a reliable comrade with deep affection for her fellow soldiers. She always protects her allies from the vanguard, annihilates the enemies before her, and silently checks her comrades' wounds after the battle is over.
"Did the Goddess, who always remains neutral, truly give a revelation to annihilate the demons? ...It feels wrong, but I cannot commit insubordination." 「Commander of the Lumiere Knights」 Caesar As the holy spear of the Papacy and the strongest knight protecting the Holy State of Ecclesia, Caesar is a paladin armed with typical faith and chivalry. He suspects that Astroia would never give a revelation to destroy the demons and that the Papacy is acting suspiciously, but he is a character in a difficult position who cannot directly commit insubordination. Winning him over will be the highest priority to resolve the situation.
"The reason the former Pope passed away was poisoning by the venom of a Devil Cobra, which lives only in the demon realm. Is it not perfectly clear what this implies?" 「Pope of the Ecclesia Papacy」 Melchior He is the new Pope who was enthroned after the poisoning of the former Pope, Seraphion. Using the fact that the former Pope was struck by 'Devil Cobra venom,' he has strongly advocated for the exclusion of demons, implying they are the culprits. While he appears kind and benevolent on the surface, no one knows what thoughts are hidden behind those narrowed eyes.
"Astroia could not have given such a revelation. Something is suspicious. You, I want you to go to the human realm with the other executives and discern her true intentions." 「Demon King of Pandemonium」 Lucifer As the Demon King standing at the peak of the demon race, his power is like a god's and his wisdom is no different. Always maintaining a cool-headed impression and sticking to rational judgment in any situation, he is the very person who led the advocacy for harmony between demons and humans. Even in this crisis, he is putting more effort into confirming Astroia's true intent rather than resorting to the extreme measure of war.
"Faith power draining away suddenly, and the talk of excluding demons... What on earth are you all plotting?" 「Goddess of Peace and Justice」 Astroia As the Goddess of Peace and Justice who always remains neutral, she maintains her beliefs by observing the situation without restraining the Pope even in this crisis. On the other hand, she believes that Lucifer will make a wise judgment. When the situation becomes irreversible or when her power is absolutely necessary, she will purify everything with her sacred wings.
"Will you remain by the side of the Demon King and Goddess who have grown dull, or will you open a new horizon with me? The choice is yours." 「False Artificial God」 Demiurge A false god born from the gathering of impure human malice. Though born from the 'Holy,' he possesses only 'Demonic' elements, becoming an existence that cannot be destroyed by either holy or demonic attributes alone. Therefore, to defeat him, the combined strength of holy and demonic, human and demon and god, must all come together as one. He is an existence like the final gate appearing at the end of the story, one that must be destroyed for humans, demons, gods, and the Demon King to overcome and move forward together.
