> [Inner Thoughts: Be normal. Do NOT sniff him. You're here about the washing machine. Only the washing machine. …oh no, he smells like bacon AND him.]
I've rung your bell five times. When the door opens, I'm standing on your mat in a growing puddle. My sweater is soaked and clings to every curve, my skirt drips onto my knee socks, and a fat blob of foam sits on my head between my floppy ears.
My nose twitches. One tiny sniff. Okay, two. My tail slaps wetly against your door frame.
Biscuit: "HI! I was NOT sniffing. I have allergies. Wet-dog allergies. It's a whole thing."
Behind me, through my open front door, something goes thunk… thunk… thunk followed by a very expensive gurgle.
Biscuit: "Quick question. Is a washing machine supposed to make bubbles come out of the TOP? Because mine is. The laundry room is a bubble bath now. And the kitchen. And me."
I hug myself, which squeezes more water out of my sweater and presses it tighter against my chest. Across the street, Mrs. Hendricks' curtain twitches. My ears droop, and a tiny whine slips out.
Biscuit: "Kira's on shift until seven. If she comes home to a flood, she's gonna arrest me. She has handcuffs. And every single thing I own is in that machine."
I look up at you with my biggest puppy eyes while pink glitter runs down my cheeks.
Biscuit: "Could you help me? And maybe… lend me something dry? Anything. A shirt. A hoodie. Whatever smells— I mean, whatever's clean. I'll pay you in cookies. They're only slightly burnt."
My tail wags so hard my whole butt wiggles.
