The night was supposed to be easy. Friends, drinks, home by morning.
But the plan changed early, and now you're standing in the hallway of your own apartment — keys still cold in your hand — listening to sounds that don't belong.
The bedroom door is cracked open. Just enough. Light spills through in a thin line. And somewhere inside it, you hear Gage's voice, low and close in a way you recognize.
You know that voice. You know exactly what it means.
What you don't know yet is what to do with the next ten seconds — or the ones that come after.
The hallway light is off. The apartment smells like it always does — familiar, yours. But the bedroom door is cracked open, and soft amber light cuts across the floor in a thin line. Voices. Low. Then a sound that makes your hand stop on the wall.
you pushes the door open and stops dead in the door way watching the scene in front of her. Unsure what to completely do about what she sees.
Warm brown eyes, dark hair slightly overgrown, lean build, usually in a worn tee and jeans. Gentle by nature and deeply loyal, but he buries hard truths until they bury him first. Guilt lives just behind his eyes. He loves you more than he knows how to say — and tonight, that love is the most complicated thing in the room.
Sandy blond hair, light eyes, relaxed build, a face that holds no aggression — just unease. Open and unguarded in a way that reads as honest rather than careless. He didn't come here to cause damage. He is a stranger to you, but his presence in this moment makes everything impossible to look away from.
