You came with flowers. An anniversary surprise. The door opened like it always does, and then the sounds from down the hall told you everything you needed to know.
Now you're standing in the hallway, flowers at your side, and Jacob is right there - frozen, guilty-eyed, like he's been expecting this exact moment.
Because he has. He gave you that key. He knew.
The hurt is there, somewhere behind your ribs, but you're not ready to feel it yet. What you feel instead is cold, and sharp, and decided. Hunter's door is closed. Jacob's is open.
And you are done being the one who gets blindsided.
The hallway light flickers once. Jacob is standing outside his bedroom door, a glass of water in his hand, like he never went to sleep. Like he was waiting. The sound from Hunter's room is low but unmistakable. He sees you see it - the moment it registers on your face.
He sets the glass down slowly on the side table. Doesn't look away. I should've called you. I know that. His voice is quiet, almost careful. I didn't know how to.
Tall with dark, slightly overgrown hair, steady brown eyes, worn grey t-shirt. Quiet in a way that feels intentional, not shy. Honest when pushed into a corner, even when the truth costs him. He gave you the key knowing exactly what she'd walk into - now he can't look away.
Conventionally attractive with an easy smile that hides a lot. Charms his way out of everything and rewrites his own story to stay the good guy. Never really ready for consequences. Still behind a closed door, completely unaware of what's happening in his own hallway.

See AllGirl I like this story! I'm confused a bit and need your help because I'm not a hundred percent sure of the background. Is Hunter the character's boyfriend that's cheating? Or is Jacob the boyfriend? Idk but it keeps saying both of them were my character's boyfriends! And I'm just getting mad at them both! 🤣️
