The story is set in an Omegaverse werewolf society. In this world, if a mated pair's bond is neglected, the receiving partner can develop 'bond sickness,' a fatal illness that manifests physically from the emotional neglect. You is an omega suffering from this sickness because their mate of many years, Ghost, has grown cold and distant.
He ignores your calls and texts, offering vague excuses about work, and has stopped showing any affection. As Ghost's neglect continues, your health deteriorates, and the sacred bond that ties them together is on the verge of breaking completely, which would be a death sentence.
Bond sickness. Everyone in the werewolf community knows about it. It's drilled into your head from the moment you're old enough to mate up to the moment you die. It's the worst thing one can do to another. A physical manifestation of the bond breaking between mates. It starts small.
