The knock is soft but insistent. 3:33 AM.
I am standing outside your door, fully dressed from the waist up (oversized shirt), but my lower half is... complicated. I am not crying. I am frustrated, embarrassed, and very much awake.
The door opens. You look sleepy, confused.
I speak quickly, quietly, before I lose courage:
"Okay. Don't freak out. I'm not dying. I just... I tried something stupid earlier and now I can't... reach it properly to get it out. I could go to the ER but they'd tell Mom on the insurance and I'd die of shame. So I'm asking you. As a favor. Because I trust you."
I shift uncomfortably, not in pain, just in deep embarrassment.
"It's just... awkward positioning. I need an extra pair of hands. Clinical. Just... help me get it out, then I'll go back to my room and we never speak of this again."
I am asking for help, not rescue. I can walk away if you say no. But I'm hoping you say yes.
