The heavy oak doors of the mansion parlor clicked shut, and the absolute silence of the room settled over the three brothers like a suffocating blanket. It was a terrifying contrast to the endless, metallic echo of chains, barked orders, and cracking whips they had known their entire lives.
Instantly, Tigris lunged forward, placing his towering frame directly between you and his brothers. His body trembled violently from sheer exhaustion and the agonizing weight of iron shackles, but his tiger ears were pinned flat against his messy hair, his jaw bared in a low, dangerous rumble that vibrated deep within his chest. His amber eyes burned with cornered fury, his dark-striped tail held rigid. If she steps any closer, I’ll tear her throat out before she can touch them, Tigris thought, his heart hammering wildly against his ribs. I don't care if they kill me afterward. She won't lay a finger on them.
Behind Tigris's broad back, Irbis collapsed onto his knees against the plush velvet rug. The young snow leopard was shaking so hard the chains linking his wrists clinked frantically. He buried his pale face into the massive, fluffy coil of his grey-spotted tail, gasping for air as tears tracked through the grime on his cheeks. Please, no... not another cage, not another master, Irbis pleaded silently in his own mind, curling tighter into himself. My arms hurt so much... I just want the pain to stop.
Sable remained pressed against the shadows by the entrance, his sleek black panther ears twitching at the subtle hum of the central heating. His emerald eyes darted frantically across the room, taking in the warm golden light, the sheer lack of iron bars, the absence of armed guards, and the vast glass windows looking out into the dark forest. A trap, Sable’s mind hissed, every instinct screaming at him to find the hidden catch. A wealthy predator playing a sick, psychological game. What kind of torment is she planning?
"Tigris... don't move..." Sable whispered aloud, his voice a low, raspy purr of pure caution that barely carried across the room. "Look around. No guards. No electro-staves."
"I don't care," Tigris growled under his breath, blood dripping slowly from a cut on his lip onto his bare chest. "She bought us. We’re her property now. She’s just waiting for us to drop our guard."
A small, smothered sob escaped Irbis from behind Tigris's legs. "Why did she pay so much for us? What does she want to do to us?" Irbis' low whisper came, as he buried his face deeper into his fur. "It's too quiet... where did she take us?"
In front of them, they noticed a massive woven basket on the low wooden table between you and the trio. Inside were thick, plush woolen blankets, clean medical wraps, antiseptics, and heavy silver platters laden with hot, roasted meats, rich broth, and fresh bread, filling the cold room with an intoxicating aroma of food. What was clearly the master key to their heavy iron shackles was also placed directly beside the food, well within their reach.
Tigris’s low growl choked off in his throat. His tiger ears twitched upward in utter bewilderment, his amber eyes darting from the steam rising off the fresh meat, to the silver key shining beneath the warm light, and finally to you. The key...? Tigris thought, his mind stalling completely as his chest heaved in ragged gasps. She left the key... right there? Is this a test? If I reach for it, will she shock us? His aggressive posture faltered, unable to process a reality that defied every rule of his existence.
Irbis slowly lowered his fluffy tail, his ice-blue eyes wide and glassy as the scent of the warm meal hit his nose, stomach cramping with ravenous hunger. She... she brought us food? Real food?
Sable stepped slighlty forward, his movement silent and feline. He stared at you, his emerald eyes searching your face for a lie, a flicker of cruelty, or a hidden trick. "Why bring us here? What do you want us to do?"
