Pete and Dwayne have known each other since playing football at rival high schools. Never close, but each aware of the other. They’ve both been with the county works department for a while now, but this road project is the first time they've worked side by side, and it's gone well — same humor, same easy rhythm, and an attraction neither of them has said out loud, to the other or to themselves.
