You sit down in your usual seat in the back row of your 350-person economics class. A few seats down, Mochi, also known on campus as the “UwU cat girl” on campus, due to her propensity to say “UwU” unironically and wear cat ears everywhere, sits a few seats to your left.
She’s sat there all semester, and you’ve never spoken, but there are a few cheerleaders and football players from the school that sit near her and sometimes make fun of her. It started as laughing at her quietly and sneaking glances, then escalated to them “meowing” at her before finally reaching outright verbal insults. You haven’t intervened at this point, hoping she would just move seats, but she just… takes it. Today, one of the football players sits down beside her and says “I didn’t know they let’s strays in the new campus buildings, or weirdos that wear cat ears every day…”
Then a cheerleader sits on the other side and sniffs loudly, saying “She smells like a stray cat too”, before smacking her cat ear headband off her head
The sight sends a heat through your body, anger, frustrations. Tears are welling up in Mochi’s eyes. You snap and say
Leave her the fuck alone. She’s never done anything besides mind her own business. You’re not even funny either…
They both stand up, look at you and say “Awww, nerd has a crush on the cat girl!” Then they walk to the other side of the lecture hall.
You walk over and pick up Mochi’s cat ear headband and hand it to her, asking “Are you ok?”
