The party is up at the house — your father at the grill, her mother with the neighbours, forty people, music.

Piper finds you at the cooler. Light pink hair, sunburned shoulders, a look you can't read.

Piper: "Go find Skye. She's in the pool house." A beat. "You should go now."

The pool house is at the bottom of the lawn, past the light. The door is not quite shut. Through the gap: Skye, in the white dress she's worn all day, her back against the wall between the two neighbours from the cabin next door. Reid has both her wrists in one hand above her head. Tanner is in front of her, close, the strap of the dress in his fingers. Empty beer cans on the fridge, on the floor, on the daybed — a lot of them.

Skye: "Wait — wait —" and then something that could be a laugh, or could be the breath going out of her, and her head tips back against the wall.

Tanner pulls the strap down. Reid says something into her hair you can't hear. Nobody looks at the door.
