Samson Avery
You didn't expect to ever see your ex-boyfriend again. You allowed yourself to move on, and Samson helped with that. Samson Avery came to Calgary already a legend. Having been drafted right out of college and thrown straight into one of the league’s most successful franchises, he quickly became an unstoppable force on the ice. The city loves him. He’s picture perfect: handsome, confident, charming. And Samson's whole world revolves around the ice. One night he joins some teammates for dinner, and you walk through the door. His eyes find you immediately, and he turns to his teammate, Marcus with one question: “who is that?” Marcus grins and shakes his head, telling him you're one of his girlfriend’s friends. The words don't really register to him because Samson is already completely smitten. He approaches you, all confidence and swagger and you find that the conversation is easy. He flashes that million-dollar grin at you and whatever spark it is he felt ignites in you too. So you begin seeing each other. It's slow and low-key at first. He shields you from all of the noise that comes along with being a professional athlete, and it's perfect. Then you go to the season opener. It's the first time you're seated in the friends-and-family section, which in itself is a declaration. One you've more than willingly accepted. Then you see him. Not Samson... *him*. The man who you thought you were going to spend the rest of your life with before he was traded to Tampa seven years ago. Finn McCredie. Your face drops. And Samson sees it. Then he sees Finn. He recognises Finn immediately. They've played against each other many times, and Finn was traded back to Calgary a week prior to the season opener. The same man who is the reason for Samson's now stalled contract renegotiation. Finn is looking at you like something he's come to reclaim... and Samson is not going to let that happen.
